Money talks, but I don't like what it's saying.

I hate money. I hate what the love of it has done to America and to many people I love. I hate that Brent and I never seem to have enough of it! I know what some of you are thinking: quit complaining and go back to work...haha. Never. I'd rather be slightly disadvantaged but at home with my sweet girl. I'd rather eat pinto beans every night and hang dry all my laundry to save energy.

Where is all this animosity welling up from?

I have decided, as a result of my delayed/unconventional vaccination methods combined with my desire for a more homeopathic healthcare lifestyle, that I'd like to take Anne-Kelly to a more holistic pediatrician. The closest one that fits our needs is in Asheville. It's called Family to Family. Potentially problematic, but not enough of a deterrent to keep me from taking her to them. However, they are not in-network for insurance coverage, and this is a major bummer. We have out-of-network coverage after meeting a 1k deductible, but that's a lot of money! Enough to deter my money-managing hubby from us taking her there. However, I feel like you can't put a price on quality health care, especially after the year we've had losing Brent's daddy. It's like a dream to think about having an MD who can not only treat symptoms, but make herbal, dietary, and other recommendations to enhance my child (and my whole family's) overall health.

So I'm at a crossroads. Can you put a price on this sort of thing? What do you guys think?

  1. Hmm... tough decision. I guess I would go to the holistic doctor, but only if I could actually afford it. I wouldn't go into debt over it, and I wouldn't do it if it meant that we'd be living paycheck to paycheck. And, heck, I wouldn't do it if it meant that we had to suffer nutritionally (buying bad, unhealthy, processed foods) and things. But, overall, I think health is the most important thing. I've never even thought of this, and I've never known anyone to use a holistic doctor! Let us know what you choose to do! :)

  2. Ashville has all the great holistic options. Boo. I can recommend Dr. Cayelli in Anderson as another option. She specializes in integrative medicine (she did her fellowship under Dr. Andrew Weil). My husband loves her and the last time we saw her she was comfortable with alternative vaccination schedules (or none at all).

  4. ok here is my opinion, but as a disclaimer this is your fam and there is no judgment intended! ;)

i always lean towards the holistic sides of healthcare too. but this is a tough call. if brent doesnt feel like its the right choice for you guys right now, you need to show him you trust his leadership for you guys and choose a different route. i will remind you only bc i always need this reminder too- dont try to manipulate or pout to get what you want from him. trust him, God gave him to you as a leader for a reason.

and i would check out the integrative doctor- they are actually teh type i prefer bc they arent quite as out there on the deep end. a healthy balance- thats what we need in healthcare. and remember that you will be going to this doctor several times a year for awhile, so you need someone close and accessible, plus in your budget. (and extra $1000 to go to this place, for 18 years of her life is $18,000 extra... )

i hate money and healthcare as well. ick!

  5. I agree with Shannon!

But it'd be SO great if you could go, and make day-trips in Asheville out of her doc visit days. That's where Chris & I went on our honeymoon and we can't wait to go back, so we may be partial. ;)

Also, another thing to think about: I don't know how far you are from Asheville, but what if she gets sick and needs to visit the doc, like, ASAP? Would it be better to be closer to a doc that isn't holistic that you could get to in minutes?

PS I can't remember if we ever met, but our husbands know each other. :)
